Our talk at the Adult Health and Social Care Scrutiny Committee

Healthwatch Camden attends the regular meetings of the Adult Health and Social Care Scrutiny Committee. The role of this committee, which is comprised of elected members of Camden Council, is to scrutinise matters relating to health, public health and adult social care. They also listen to local residents with a view to improving health and social care services, reducing health inequalities and improving the health and care of local residents.

The 9 October agenda included a presentation from the Director of Public Health about the provision of local sexual health services. This included the development of the pan London Online Sexual Health service (or “e-service”) following the start of the new Integrated Sexual Health Service in July 2017.

At the meeting, Anna Wright our Deputy Director and Policy Lead spoke because local people told us that they are experiencing some problems with the new service. In particular, that there are long waits for appointments, frustrations with the sexual health website, poor access to past patient records due to delays in transferring clinical data and low staff morale.

Anna shared the information we gathered at the committee meeting so that everyone could hear the service user perspective.
