Quality in residential care homes reports – results

We’re seeing great results from our work in partnership with Independent Age on indicators of quality in care homes. Read our reports for more information.

We understand that just over 2,000 of Age UK’s campaigners have written to their MPs calling on them to engage with their local Healthwatch. Around 470 MPs in England have now been contacted.

A good number of these campaigners sent MP responses to Independent Age, sharing details from their MP showing how their MPs intend to take the conversation forward with their local Healthwatch.

Here at Healthwatch Camden we’ve also received responses from the Healthwatch network showing an interest in using our ‘enter and view’ model for evaluating care homes.

Age UK, with our input, has also continued to promote the reports and recommendations to MPs, meeting some face-to-face in Westminster.

A number of local Healthwatch have now got back to their MPs explaining what their plans are for more enter and view visits. We’re pleased that some of the Healthwatch have said that they are keen to look at the eight ‘care home quality indicators’, that we recommended. Several Healthwatch have called us for advice and training.

So all in all our work has been well received!

If you still haven’t read the reports you can find them on our reports page. There are seven on care homes in Camden and the one issued by Independent Age.

Finally, Healthwatch England are encouraging the use of the indicators and the Healthwatch Camden support materials, across the network to help build a more consistent view of care home quality across different local Healthwatch reports.
