Message from Frances Hasler – Healthwatch Camden, Director

The start of the financial year in April is also the start of the work year for Healthwatch Camden, so we’re looking forward to what we’ll be doing over the next twelve months.

Some of it will be following up the great projects we have just completed – on GP services and on health and wellbeing in the Bangladeshi community. Some of it will be completing projects we have already started – including our audio diary project with people who use the Highgate mental health day centre.

As usual, we will spend time this summer meeting people out and about in Camden, at the many community events across the borough.

As usual, we’ll be talking to health and social care commissioners to make sure that all developments involve local people every step of the way.

A new development we are excited about is the Living Centre at the Crick Institute in Somers Town. We were thrilled that a consortium of local organisations, led by Somers Town Community Association, has been chosen to run the Living Centre. Healthwatch Camden is part of the consortium. We expect to start providing information there early in 2017. We really like being part of a partnership with so many great local organisations.

Also in September, we’ll be packing our bags and saying goodbye to Kentish Town Road. We’ve been fortunate in the past three years to rent space from Voluntary Action Camden (VAC). But the lease on their office is ending, and we need to find a new base. The search is on for a suitable space. We’d be happy to hear from organisations with space to spare.
