We attended Camden Mela 2015

On 26 July, Peter, our Community Outreach Officer, manned the Healthwatch Camden stall at the Camden Mela. This popular Mela organised by Kings Cross and Brunswick Neighbourhood Association attracts over 5,000 local residents.

Our position on the Health and Wellbeing board means that we have the power to influence the delivery and design of local services. In order to get the best out of local health and social care services for our diverse community, every voice counts.

At the Mela, Peter handed out information on Healthwatch Camden’s role in the community, and collected views for our  ‘Your Voice Counts’ survey, where people get a chance to tell us what their priorities and concerns are on local health and social care provision.

Helping out at events and volunteering for us enables you to get your voice heard. We also need volunteers for enter and view, mystery shopping, researchers, and Healthwatch Champions.

For example, Aminat, one of our volunteers who is interested in a career in medicine, asked members of the Bangladeshi Community to fill in surveys on the health needs of the Bangladeshi Community. The surveys will be used as part of wider evidence gathering and be part of a final report presented to Camden Council Scrutiny Panel.

If you’re interested in volunteering in one of the roles, and would like to gain valuable office experience, why not contact us?
