In July Victoria Armitage our Project Officer, attended a couple of local events:

On Thursday 13 July 2017, we were featured in the Camden New Journal on our Highgate Day Centre report.

The Highgate Day Centre is a service for people with mental health needs in Camden. During 2015-16, the service underwent significant changes, some due to resource constraints and also partly in response to changes in thinking around appropriate models for service delivery.

Last month we launched our annual report for 2016 / 17. This year we focused on the ‘power of partnership’. We’ve successfully worked in partnership with local organisations, including working with mental health users on a unique project to record their experiences on changes to their service.

We’re pleased with the partnerships we’ve forged and it will help us to ensure that local people’s voices are stronger in the delivery of health and social care services.

In June we issued a report on dental service provision in Camden. It’s called ‘Accessing dental services in Camden: experiences of local people.’

Part of our remit is to make sure that local people help to shape health and social care services so that the diverse needs of our community is met.

We found out that local people are experiencing barriers to accessing dental care in Camden.

On 26 June, Healthwatch Camden said ‘goodbye’ to our founding chair, Connie Smith.

We also welcomed our new chair of trustees, Saloni Thakrar.

We were sorry to lose Connie, who is stepping down after four very successful years, and pleased that she will be returning to us as a volunteer.

Trustees and staff were delighted to welcome Saloni to replace her, we know she will bring energy, creativity and commitment to the leadership of Healthwatch Camden.  

On June 25 Lindy Maqhubela our Communications Manager and Anna Wright, our Deputy Director and Policy Lead manned a stall at the South End Green Festival. They were joined by our enthusiastic volunteers.

Part of our remit is to sign post people to suitable health and social care services in Camden, so we got the chance to hand out leaflets about us and our role and also chatted with lots of local people.

As usual we got feedback via our ‘Your Voice Counts’ survey which is an opportunity for local people to let their voices be heard on services provided.
